SUSTAINABILITY

Our journey to sustainable sustainability

Picnic Time was founded with the goal of helping our customers make the most of their time with friends and family.  Many of our products are meant to be enjoyed in the great outdoors, so it should come as no surprise that doing our part to create a cleaner, greener future is a top priority at every level of our organization.

You’ve probably seen and heard of other brands “greenwashing” this process.  We won’t. As you can imagine, moving toward a truly eco-friendly operation at every level of our company is not a simple process…but nothing really valuable ever is, is it?  It has meant continually changing how we look at all aspects of our business. It includes collaboration across teams and departments, switching suppliers, and vetting the veracity of dubious “recyclable” claims, just to name a few.

But luckily, we care deeply about building a sustainable future, so this work is totally worth it. Are we already perfect? Nope. Are we working every day to improve, taking our journey toward a sustainable future one steady step at a time? You bet! Thanks for making the journey with us.

Where We Are Now:

Earth-Friendly Materials

Our products are made of sustainable and/or renewable materials such as RPET, acacia wood, bamboo, parawood, mango wood, vegan leather, and more.

Encouraging Re-Use

Our picnic baskets come with reusable utensils to help reduce the need for single-use plastics.

Boo to Landfills

We think our customers deserve products that last, instead of filling up landfills with shoddy throwaways. That’s a major reason why we offer and stand behind our Built to Last lifetime warranty!

Reduced-Waste Shipping

We use recycled cardboard for retail packaging and shipping cartons and minimal packing materials to reduce waste.

Change Begins at Home (or, in our case, at HQ)

We’ve converted to low water use landscaping, implemented energy-efficient window tinting, installed low flush toilets, changed from fluorescent to LED lighting, and installed EV parking spaces complete with charging. We also have an in-house recycling program for cardboard, plastics, and glass.

Meet the Green Beans

Our CEO & “Captain Picnic” Paul led the charge, but it was vital for us to make sure this process didn’t only come down to one person - it had to be a company-wide initiative for which we all have a passion and feel empowered to take accountability. To keep things focused, we founded a group called the “Green Beans” who meet regularly to review the overarching sustainability mission, brainstorm methods to achieve our goals across departments, and implement actions that get us there. No idea is too big or too small for the Green Beans to investigate, and their thought leadership and communication help us to get buy-in across the company on the policies that are implemented.
